Renew at same price

Go to solution

I am receiving correspondence regarding renewing my broadband contract, which runs out in June, and the renewal " deal " is just to renew at the same price i'm paying now - the price already increased from March, and if I renew for 24 months, its still going to go up again next March, as indeed it will if I don't renew anyway, so is there any benefit whatsoever to renewing for 24 months at the same price? Surely ill have more leverage to negotiate a better deal if I just let my contract run out, pay the same as I would have done had I renewed for 24 months, but then as I won't be contracted after June I will be free to negotiate or switch providers?

Not sure if i'm missing something here or not.

I would wait until nearer your contract end date and then see what deal you can negotiate. you will be in a stronger position then and if you don't like offer then you can move to another ISP without penalty

Yeah that's what I was thinking, it just seems strange to offer a renewal at the same price, when it won't be going up again till next March anyway, when it will go up then even if I do renew now. A renewal surely is to give you an incentive to stay?

I'll wait and see, thanks.

Re: Renew at same price

I've been out of contract for a few years now and I get the distinct impression the intial renewal offer is based on the assumption you'll be apathetic enough to pay it without question.  Frankly, they're getting silly with it.  I'm going to have to sort it out soon and see about the upgrade to FTTP.

Having weight it up over the last few months, I'd wait until closer to your renewal date.  Get some prices from rivals for the same package.  Then phone retentions on 0800 783 1401 and make it clear you're leaving unless they can make you a substantially better offer.

I have had emails also but the prices are insane. For the same price I was offered Fibre 900 Halo or for an extra £2 the complete package. Currently I am on Fibre Halo 3 for £52 per month which includes phone. A new customer according to the email would pay £72.99, that's insane. I just need Fibre 300 without Halo add ons so I will haggle to get it down. I was offered Fibre 500 for £44 before the price rises.

Well I’m definitely going to wait till nearer to my contract expiring and then see what can be negotiated. Looking at other providers they are offering the same broadband full fibre 900 and phone as what we have now the roughly half of what we are currently paying.

Also best keep the mindset of actually leaving..BT/EE don't seem that interested in retaining existing subscribers and as most use the same openreach line and offer better routers then the ancient SH2 it really isn't a hardship to depart

Re: Renew at same price

If you use the one-touch switch system now in place, you can set a date for your transfer to a different supplier.  If you do that, you may find that BT will come back with an improved offer - once you try to take that offer up, they may try to renege or upsell, but provided you are willing and able to withstand the barrage of texts, emails, and calls, you can probably get a better offer.

*I'll admit it was such a pain that I almost just stuck with the supplier I'd intended to switch to!  My new 900/100 contract starting 1st of may is £30.99pcm.  There are a couple of cheaper options elsewhere, but they all have issues/niggles that make them less than suitable for me!

I only learn by making mistakes and owning up to them - boy do I learn a lot!

And that’s with bt is it? The £30.99 per month? And how long is it contracted for if you don’t mind me asking?

thanks for the replies.
