I have two different BT account numbers but one email address. My old, redundant account number is linked to my email address and so I'm unable to order new products.

I have the same problem too. Have 4 account numbers, 3 are inactive. Only one active. Every time I log in, all 4 account numbers are listed . How can I remove the inactive account numbers?
And why is this solution personally emailed/replied rather than giving that option to everyone with ease of access?

The solution is, we need to remove the accounts for you. It's not something that can be done at your end.
I'll send you a private message so we can remove all of the old accounts for you. It will take us a few working days before we can get back to you, but I can assure you that we will get all sorted for you.

For everyone on this thread, we have manually removed the inactive accounts.

Hi, I have two accounts one active, one inactive and some of my family members @btinternet email are on one account (the inactive one) and the rest on mine -can that be sorted please?

Despicable service.
Can't understand why we can't easily delete duplicate accounts.
Private message sent asks for a lot of personal details. Why?
Even banks allow closure of unused accounts at a click of a button.
Come on BT. Upgrade yourself to new age IT.
Leaving BT in June at the end of contract anyway. So won't bother you anymore.
