Why can't I get BT broadband and the street across from me can?

Got it, here's a version more suited for a community forum:

I reside at BS34 5TZ, served by cabinet 23, and have been attempting to place orders for BT internet services. Despite the BT Broadband Availability Checker showing similar availability for my address and the neighbouring address across the street (served by cabinet 32), all attempts have failed.

Could someone from BT please look into this issue?

@theuser1001

This is just a customer to customer help forum, everyone here, including myself, are just customers.

The only BT Employees are the forum moderators.

Use the address checker on the page below, and post the results, but edit out your address details first.

Hi @Keith_Beddoe ,

Is there any way that they can come and install Fibre?

Only part of the cabinet is enabled for FTTC, probably due to the way the cabinet pairs are split up. Some will go via the fibre equipment, and some will not.

Its Openreach that provide the network, so you would have to ask them.

https://www.openreach.com/broadband-network/fibre-availability

ADSL is available.

Re: Why can't I get BT broadband and the street across from me can?

It looks like there are other providers using optical fibre.

Use this link https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/en-gb/broadband-coverage#pc=BS345TZ

Its unlikely that Openreach would want to cover an area which is already covered by other providers.

Re: Why can't I get BT broadband and the street across from me can?

The 2 screenshots you posted do not show residential FTTP for either address but FTTPoD which is a business service not provided by BT.

You could get the service from a business provider but be prepared to spend several £1000's just to get it installed.

An Altnet may be providing the reidential service in your area but that is outside of any help this forum can give you.

Re: Why can't I get BT broadband and the street across from me can?

That's true when the plot was originally built in 2019 for the first two years there was a contract in place with OFNL. And most of their plans are way overpriced and offer terrible services (eg. used See the Light for 3 months and was on a 300mbps plan and only received 90mbps and I was paying over £55). The other Plot on the other hand (Address: BS34 5AW NO:20) had the same infrastructure in place but also had Openreach on top of that as well. There shouldn't be any harm connecting another residential address up isn't there (fyi the surrounding areas of BS34 5TZ have Openreach's infrastructure installed/ 10cm away from my property there is BT underground ducting for the fibre cables) ?

Re: Why can't I get BT broadband and the street across from me can?

Spoke with BT regarding this. They can confirm indeed that FTTC is available and that I could upgrade it in the future to FTTP when it rolls out (hopefully by the end of 2026). Since the address is showing up as a Silver Address on their side they need to get that changed over to GOLD. But they can see from past attempts that Openreach just keep saying lack of Infrastructure even though the BT connections department can see nearby addresses (that are very close to my address) have got lines installed and they can't simply understand why the system can't read it normally like other address and why Openreach has said that. Hence they have lodged a complaint and have escalated this to Openreach directly to get a fix for this. Also, some good news my router has been dispatched as well.
