Getting server error when trying to activate virus protect

As the subscription for our Bitdefender AV has now expired I decided to try the BT one included with our package. But, cannot Activate it from the My BT web page when logged in as account holder.

Have completely removed the old AV.

Bit worried now as having to rely on Windows defender.

Any ideas?

Re: Getting server error when trying to activate virus protect

Just to set your mind at rest while you try to get a solution. There is nothing wrong with Microsoft Defender. It might not have all the bells and whistles of other AV products but it is fully integrated with Windows and updates on a regular basis.

see link and many others pages on the Internet.

One thing to check is to make sure you are shown as the account holder. To do that by log into MyBT click 'Your details' then 'Account' and it will show you if you're the account holder. If you're showing as an account manager you can change/claim account holder status from there.

Hi @ianrookb, sorry you're having trouble activating the virus protect.

Do you get any error message when you try to activate it?

Cheers

Re: Getting server error when trying to activate virus protect

Hi @ianrookb, thanks for posting back that information. This error is usually associated with the BTID.

I know you mentioned you've checked that you've claimed the Account Holder status on the account but just check again by logging in and select - 'Your Details' and then 'Account' it should say "Account Holder" and not "Account Manager".

Also check if you've more than one account linked to your BTID as this can also cause this error. The pick box beside the account number will list any other accounts if there are any.

Cheers

John
