My Norton Vault has disappeared and is empty!! Very annoying!!!! Is there a way of backing up!!

My Norton Vault has disappeared!!! Very annoying!!! Will it come back or has BT/Norton lost it!!!!
In future is there a way of backing this up or should I revert to good old pen and paper (only problem there if the pen runs out of ink!!!)
