Norton BT Virus Protect on Android Mobile - Reuse of the Accessibility Button (little man icon)

I installed on a Samsung Galaxy S10 (Android v 12).  After installation the dashboard shows you which services require further attention.  The first one was App security. Clicking the App Security "Setup required" takes you to the Android  Accessibility screen with a message "Find and Select BT Virus Protect Service".  You'll actually find that lower down inside 'Installed Apps' with "Off" against it. Clicking on BT Virus Protect service takes you to a settings screen where you can change "Off" to "On" and also switch "BT Virus Protect Service shortcut" on.  I thought this would be similar to the McAfee BT Virus Protect icon which was useful for quickly opening up the dashboard.  Alas not.  By switching on that icon, Norton then reuses the Android Accessibility Icon "To start or stop this function".  They don't actually say which function you will be stopping and starting.  Is it the whole BT Virus Protect service?  If so, why would you want to do that?  However, after completing the whole setup I tried to use the little man icon which sits on the bottom the phone screen.  It just blinks, gets subtly brighter then goes back to normal with no indication or feedback as to what it has done.  It appears to do nothing!  What does it do?

It's also a bit disconcerting that Norton did not forewarn users that it is going to reuse the Accessibility button, especially those users who may already be using it for Accessibility purposes.

Hi @Hempea, thanks for your post. We've checked this with Norton and they've advised that you should follow the below process.

  1. Open Android BT Virus Protect app.
  2. View main feature dashboard.
  3. Tap ‘App Security' (below App Security says “Setup required”).
  4. User will see a modal “Get real-time protection” with a CTA “set up.”
  5. User gets to the “Accessibility” settings screen. (see below)
  6. The bottom of the Accessibility screen there is a CTA highlighted in grey that says “Find and tap Norton 360 service.” (see below)
  7. The next screen asks the user to turn “ON” the permissions needed to fully activate the security features. (see below)
