Parental Controls

What on earth is going on with parental controls? I made the mistake of enabling it in order to block some websites and the way the Parental Controls is playing up is simply crazy.

I can't browse Facebook or X, even if I add Facebook and X to allowed websites. A day or two later it's the other way around. There are clearly DNS settings that are being tweaked and these are probably cached internally. Unfortunately, this is not working out. I had to purchase a VPN subscription to get around the appalling functionality.

Is there a way to sort this out before I have to cancel my subscription and fins a new provider?

Re: Parental Controls

You gotta disable it via your mybt app or through the website. They don’t enable/disable those controls for you

Re: Parental Controls

I HAVE disabled it on the website. The first time I enabled it, YouTube stopped working. I was told YouTube was included in the "Games" category, so I unchecked "Games" but it still wouldn't work. I then disabled Parental Controls entirely which gave me access to Youtube but then Facebook stopped working. And it's been playing up for about two weeks now. Even without Parental Controls enabled (yes, via the website), Facebook has now stopped working (I can't access it because it's blocked). The only way I can get to it is with a VPN connection.

Re: Parental Controls

If it’s disabled on bt side,  it’s your devices that are the issue, delete cache, reset all devices. Not sure what you want them to do if parental control is disabled

Re: Parental Controls

Please, it's not on my side. I get exactly the same result on every laptop in the house. The problem is on the BT side. Most likely they cache the DNS settings and this is acting up.

Re: Parental Controls

To further describe BTs complete and utter failure in this case:

If I disable Parental Controls, I can't access Facebook.

If I enable Parental Controls and use a content filter that blocks Porn, Nudity, Drugs, Alcohol & Tobacco, and Weapons & Violence + block TikTok.com in Blocked Websites, then Facebook is blocked. But if I add Facebook.com to the allowed websites list, then Facebook works (no, it's NOT on "my devices")....goodness...

If I then disable Parental Controls, Facebook.com cannot be accessed.

I should point out that before I enabled Parental Controls the first time I could access any website I wanted.

BT sure has fu**ed this one up.

Re: Parental Controls

Honestly, how on EARTH is it possible to manage one's technical resources as poorly as BT does? After 12 hours of decent functionality, Parental Controls once again blocks out Facebook.

SORT THIS OUT!!!! WHATS WRONG WITH YOU, BT!??
