Re: Updating online security to Norton

Thanks gg30340  - glad we haven't fallen out. Thanks too for providing the context to your support for this forum.

I'm content for the concern to be closed. My question related to not being able to install Norton and that has been addressed. My views on Norton v Windows Security remain but for the time being everything on my laptop appears to be running as expected so I won't complain to BT - for now at least.

In the meantime thanks to you and your colleagues for providing somewhere for us lesser mortals to raise concerns and find solutions.

Regards

Re: Updating online security to Norton

As an Old-Timer whose 'btopenworld' Email address is still OK.. I have read this with enjoyable interest.. As a retired BT employee who very very seldom enters this Site.. I arrived here this time via Bing!  Over the decades..it has always been a Reflex to accept what ever 'Extras' that BT say are Inclusive in their Offer.. So yes. I currently have 'BT's Norton's Protect ' ON.. [This could merely check that Microsoft AV was on and do no more???]  Informed Consent springs to mind..  However.. I keep getting 'Bright YELLOW Oblongs'  opening up  saying in RED that what I really need for Protection is 'Norton's Norton Protect'.[sic] !! McAfee  regularly had that issue too i now recall..  I read elsewhere that Microsoft AV is as good as it gets.. so cannot see that BT's Norton Protect does anything but add a possible hiccup..ie. The Yellow Oblongs!.. Am I a Silly Billy to switch it off please??

Re: Updating online security to Norton

If you do not want BT Norton Protect you are best to uninstall it rather than just "switch it off" as there is no point in having it on your computer if you have no intention using it.

Microsoft's virus protection will automatically turn on if there is no other antivirus program on your device. It is a good free antivirus and pretty much works away in the back ground and updates without any user intervention and is fully integrated with your devices Windows operating system. It will not nag you to upgrade to a "better" package or a more expensive package.
