YouView Humax DTR T2100 will no longer record anything

I noticed that scheduled recordings had stopped transferring across from the app, then that all scheduled programmes had gone from the list on the box, and also that even the pressing the Record button had no effect (although the blue light on the remote does come on).

There's plenty of space.

I've used Maintenance Mode to do a "software reset" and  "Factory reset (keep recordings)".

Anything else I can try other than total factory reset and delete all the recordings?

@tim1882

Are you able to pause a live viewing?

I'm guessing not btw.

It's likely that the index structure on the hard drive is corrupt which only a full reset - losing recordings - will resolve.

Cheers.  I just tried - actually I can pause, rewind and resume.  Is full reset still the only option?

@tim1882

I think a full reset is probably the only option actually.

@tim1882  Just wondering if you were successful with a Full Reset. I have exactly the same issue has you. I have tried Reset (keep recordings) but have not tried the full reset as do not want to lose recordings yet. Thanks Chris

Haven't done it yet - still watching the ones I don't want to lose.

Sounds like it's a relatively common problem withe Humax, and that the 'reset while keeping recordings' doesn't really work..!

Had lots of problem with the Humax, wont be buying one again.  I think the Manhattan sounds like the best PVR (once it gets an app to allow remote setting)

@tim1882

‘Reset, keeping recordings’ does indeed work for many problems, but if you recast the name as ‘Reset, keeping possibly corrupted recording structure’ you will see what its limitations in your case are.

YouView could probably have addressed this, using the Panasonic approach of allowing intact recordings to be copied to a separate hard drive, but still encoded so they can only be played on the original YouView box, so you could copy off those recordings that worked, factory reset the box, and then copy them back.

This still doesn’t cover the issue where the box fails under a perfectly good hard drive, where the encryption prevents the drive from simply being installed in a new box, and this is a bit more problematic from a security point of view.

But the fact remains that YouView could have done more to preserve our recordings in the event of box failures - still could, actually - but the will has never been there.

Re: YouView Humax DTR T2100 will no longer record anything

If I recall correctly YouView maintenance modes resets that preserve recordings  originally cleaned out the recording schedule but left existing recordings in place.  Subsequently those resets were  changed to preserve the recording schedule so that users would not need to reset their recording schedules . However if the problem with the box making recordings  is with some corruption within the schedule structure or data itself this means that  area is  not repaired  sufficiently by that reset and only the full reset does that.

@zulu17 @tim1882

I wonder if this leads to the possibility that user deletion of the schedule could cure potentially cure any issues with its structure, always assuming that all schedule entries do delete successfully?

@zulu17 @Midnight_Voice  My recordings schedule appeared to have deleted itself - it was empty.
