BT mail App

Is the BT Mail app, in its present form, fit for purpose?

In the last  2-3 years I have experienced multiple problems with using the BT Mail App.

1. Deletion of ALL my Emails on 2 occasions when on prolonged, I.e. 6-8 weeks, holidays in Portugal, following, the first time, repeated problems with BT not recognising passwords, the second time after I had had to return to the UK for a couple of days. First loss attributed by BT to hacking, a very doubtful diagnosis in view of diagnosis of the second event by several BT advisers which was that the APP was not designed for use outside the UK and was not therefore suitable for such use.
Told that deletions done to protect me, reference made to IMAP and POP regimes, which seemed irrelevant, second loss which cut off my mail  occurred whilst in Gatwick Airport was attributed to Gatwick being full of hackers!  One “agent” implied that since the App was free one could not expect it to work. During these discussions it became clear that mine was not the only complaint. Why does not BT make it clear on its web site that the APP is not suitable use outside the UK or perhaps once it is detected that is being used abroad,  (which clearly happens), it warns the user of potential problems.

2. For some time have been experiencing .”authorising” notices on all my mobile devices when trying to log into the App, culminating this morning, the message continuing for 18 minutes. It is common to three  devices but inconsistent. This morning the other two devices opened as expected. Whilst this is annoying there is another serious aspect to this problem. Apparently at random the same message appears when trying to send mail. Only found out about this by chance, normally turn away from device after pressing send button.

Yet again this morning contacted BT engineer, told  that she had that morning spoken to someone else with same problem, that BT was aware of it and dealing with it but not actually solving it. Why not? She has logged it as a complaint yet again.

3. A general problem, why does BT have no E mail communication dealing with problems, but only a ‘phone system? Record keeping thus relies solely on BT, denying customers to keep their own records of problems.

Re: BT mail App

The answer to your first paragraph is no.

Uninstall it from all your devices and install Blue Mail instead.

Re: BT mail App

The BTMail app is rubbish and lurches from one problem to another.

There is no requirement to use it in order to access your email and as suggested you should uninstall it and use some other email app such as Bluemail or even the ones that come with your mobile devices all of which will be better than the BTMail app.

It is unlikely that you will need the BTMail settings when setting up a new email app but if you do they are in this link.

An added bonus to not using the BTMail app is that you will never need to listen again to any utter drivel and lies about why the BTMail app was causing you so much grief.

EDIT: I did suggest this to you the last time you complained about the BTMail app.

Re: BT mail App

Thanks for the replies, forgot to add another problem, frequently get “session finished” or similar when trying to open BT E Mail then asked for password which, as usual,  is wrong.

Reported to BT, yet another known fault, working on it but without success apparently.

Do appreciate your advice do delete and load alternative but is there any way that I can then continue to receive mail sent to BT address?

Agree that BT seem to be sparing with the verite, remind anyone of the Post Office?

Re: BT mail App

Of course you can. There is absolutely no need to use the BT email app, any app can be used to collect any email.
