Cannot send email

Hi 

Just travelled to Ukraine and I’m and receiving emails without any issues however I have noticed  that I cannot send any emails from my iPhone, they just go to the outbox and sit there even if I try to send from there they go back into the outbox, webmail seems to work fine.

The message I get is Cannot send Mail, connection to the outgoing server ‘mail.btinternet.com’ failed additional outgoing server can be configured…..

can someone please advise on a dice for this as is have tried all the online suggestions to resolve the issues and so far none have worked

Hi @gkeevash, sorry you're having trouble sending emails. 

Are you connected via wifi when this happens and have you tried to using 4G or 5G to see if that allows you to send?

Hi John 

I’m Only connected with Wi-Fi there is no 4g or 5g.

if I go onto the bt webmail using my iPhone incoming and outgoing email works fine.

The issue appears to be when sending emails via my iPhone. I have checked all the settings and yet emails will only go to my outbox.  So is the connection to the smtp server failing or blocked due to the fact that I’m in Ukraine

Can anyone offer a solution to my problem.  I’m in Ukraine and cannot send several necessary emails, they just stay in my outbox,  the connection to the smtp server failing, why?

Hi @gkeevash we can ask our email specialists to take a look, I'll send you a private message so you can get in touch with your details. In the meantime have you considered using the BT Email app on your iPhone?

The bat Webmail seems to work fine so just wondering whether smtp servers are blocked from Ukraine if only connected via Wi-Fi, and that outgoing bt internet Mail and will only work when connected via a mobile network🤔

@gkeevash If you reply to my private message with the BT email address details and the approximate time you last tried to send an email, we can get our email specialists to check the server logs to understand why it's not working.

This has happened over the years to various places when people are not in the UK. It doesn't seem to be clear what causes it as it may not happen to everyone. It does look like the issue is around smtp rather than via webmail which nearly always works - though there have been cases where people were unable to login to webmail.

It does seem to be hit and miss although I have to say I have never had a problem when abroad.

I am currently in Spain and was in France last week, neither gave any problem.
