Re: Email disconnections have returned

@JohnC2

Sorry, didn't tag you in yesterday's message, but I have just been logged out again, so that's twice in two days. I am certain that when I logged in - both times - I ticked the box to stay logged in.

About to log back in, with box ticked, so will report back ... maybe tomorrow?

I always tick the box Keep me signed in.  But it doesn't seem to make any difference.

However, if I look at my Gmail account first and then scroll down on Frequent Visits to my BT address, it sometimes bypasses the login.  No problems with my iPad or iPhone.  It's just the laptop - which I use the most.

I'm getting very weary.

@JohnC2

Have you got any more up-to-date news for us?  What happened with the weekenders who were going to try something new?

I don't know what you mean by 'if I look at my Gmail account first and then scroll down on Frequent Visits to my BT address' ??

I also have gmail, which I view as webmail on my PC, but I don't recognise the above? Maybe it's something that's device, or browser, specific.

If you look along the top band on your screen, don't you have various other sites you can click on?  Mine has Facebook, Amazon, eBay, Climate, BT Favourites (!), etc. - and a little star with Most Visited next to it.  Having said that, if I scroll down to my BT mail and click on that, I sometimes bypass the login.  Well, an hour ago it didn't work and I had to sign in again - for the third time today.

Re: Email disconnections have returned

I think you are referring to what you can see in your browser, which if I remember correctly is Firefox? Certainly Firefox has a bookmarks toolbar with a 'most visited' drop-down menu. What your particular Firefox bookmarks toolbar and menus show will be down to how you use Firefox - it's not the same for everyone.

In any event, I no longer use Firefox, I use Chrome. I have Chrome set up with a button on my bookmarks bar for BT email, which opens my BT email, or the login screen if I am logged out. I am guessing that your 'most visited' menu does the same for you? I usually have several browser tabs open and keep my BT email open in one tab, which means that I can see if I get new emails, or if it logs me out, because the text in the tab heading changes.

Anyway, none of this has anything to do with how BT email works, it is just how we happen to use our different web browsers to navigate to the relevant BT webpage. Either of us could navigate to it using a search engine result instead, for example, and that wouldn't alter what we saw when we got to the BT website.

Your web browser will store cookies and cached data, which can affect how a website behaves once you have navigated to it. However we haven't - so far - established any clear link between stored browser data and the BT email disconnection problem.

Re: Email disconnections have returned

@Sue036

You remembered correctly!  I still use Firefox (ex Internet Explorer which I didn't get on with).  Yes, I realise that the toolbar would differ for everyone depending on what websites they frequent.

So it is probably just a coincidence that using the drop-down menu sometimes takes me directly to Webmail without logging in.  It seems to me that whatever we try to do ends up on the BT sign-in page. Whichever browser you use to navigate still brings you to the login. It's infuriating and such a waste of time.

If the BT technicians have been trying to solve the problem for months, what chance have we mere mortals?

Thank you for your clear explanations.  I'm not as advanced as you, being a relative newcomer to the Internet.

BTW, have you changed your avatar?  I like it.

Re: Email disconnections have returned

Hi @Froggy_Lady and @Sue036,

The email team believe that the issue has been fixed. It could be something with your system or browser settings that is causing the issue. I think the best thing to do is send in your details and I'll get the email team to investigate.

I have sent you a private message with instructions on how to contact the team.  You can access your messages via the envelope icon at the top right of the screen, or click on this link, Private messages

Thanks,

Paddy

Re: Email disconnections have returned

Have waited to see how this pans out this week, but (with fingers crossed) the issue seems to have been resolved for me and I have stayed logged in now for several days without being logged out.
