Multiple copies of emails from various sources

Hi,

I have started receiving multiple copies of various emails from various senders sometimes two or more copies, sometime many more.  These emails all have the same content and time received.

Two emails received yesterday, one from facebook, notification@priority.facebookmail.com, at 22:32 appears 94 times, the other from British Airway Executive club, ExecutiveClub@crm.ba.com, at 13:33 appears 153 times.

There appears to be no pattern to this as other emails from the same address only appear once.

How can this issue be resolved ?

See below for an example of duplicate emails received this morning from both Sainsburys and K-Tec Racing.

Re: Multiple copies of emails from various sources

Simply creating an account and posting the above query resulted in 1 email welcoming me to the community and 7 emails telling me I had a new rank !

This also seems to be causing problems with my Linux e-mail clients, Kmail, which is currently showing 1229 unread e-mails in the 'inbox'  and Thunderbird which is showing 919 unread e-mails.

Re: Multiple copies of emails from various sources

My Firefox BT Webmail page is now showing 10,115 unread e-mails as are my Thunderbird and Kmail clients

This is getting beyond a joke !!!

Re: Multiple copies of emails from various sources

I have just manually deleted over 4,500 copies of the BA e-mail mention above and over 2,700 copies of the Face book mail !

I have disabled my Kmail and Thunderbird clients just in case they are causing an issue, however e-mails received since they have been disabled are still being duplicated and there is no problem with accessing my 'gmail' account through kmail.

When trying to empty my 'Trash' folder I am getting 'Webtop' errors ?

Re: Multiple copies of emails from various sources

Hi @stv_t, sorry that you've got so many duplicate emails in your inbox.

Have you still got Kmail and Thunderbird disabled?
Have you any clients set up on other devices that you may have used in the past?
Would you check that IMAP is disabled on and all clients and devices you use and see if the issue persists?
Cheers

John

Re: Multiple copies of emails from various sources

I have been doing some testing on this and it does indeed seem as though KMail is causing the issue.

Each time Kmail sync’s with the server it appears to create duplicate emails within the BT email server

I have two BT email accounts so I tested this in two ways.

  • Deleting one of the accounts from Kmail - No more duplicate emails have been created for this account on the BT server.
  • Disabling the ‘Enable interval Mail Checking’ , which sync's KMail to the server every 5 minutes, in the second Kmail account setup - Afterwards e-mails are not duplicated on the BT server except when running a manual sync via ‘Check Mail’.

Therefore I think that there is an issue with sync’ing Kmail with the BT server which is somehow causing identical duplicates to be created with the same date and time created as the original email on the server.

Does anyone know what the client may be sending to the server to cause this ?
