new email format

Today when I signed into email I discovered I had the new email format. My inbox is up-to-date, but I have lost all my sent emails. The ones I have are dated from 2005 to 2008. How can I retrieve them. I did not choose this format and was given no warning.

My sent mails appear ok but worryingly a newly received email appeared in my sent items folder!

Sent emails were in unread order. Once marked as read the sent emails resumed in date order. Why sent emails were marked as unread...!
