Re: BT Email account and Outlook client

Hi I have had the same happen to me over the last few days on my windows 11 laptop. It is blocked on 1 laptop not phones and just started happening.  This happened a few years again and after repeated discussion with BT got nowhere. It then suddenly started working again. I have a fixed IP address and have wondered if that is part of the cause.

@Rjc375

If you have a fixed IP address are you a BT Business customer or are you no longer a BT Broadband customer or are you paying for your BTMail account through a BT Premium email account?

If you are a BT Business customer you will need to post on the BT Business Forum.

Actually I am both. My email is a BT premium mail account and personal but our broadband is via a BT business account. Perhaps that is part of the problem.

Re: BT Email account and Outlook client

Hi Leanne_T, thank you for reaeching out.

Not Very well, still have an issue with connecting to Emial via outlook on the PC, or the Default email client on the Iphone.

The Technician was veryu helpful and did try but in the end he just told me to conact Microsoft as it was a problme on their side, but when I did they just pointed me back to BT. Same with Apple took the phone into one of there branches and asked there advise, and the also pointed be back to a problem with BT ,  The error message I get from outlook is waiting for more action and on the IPhone Password authentication not supported.

There were no issue until everything was working perfectly until just over a week ago until it just stopped working, no no password changes or updates were done on ethier the windows 11 or Apple Iphone.

Very frustrating.  One thought is could it be two factor authentication on BT side, but don't know how to turn that off.

Sorry for the rant, but stuck  between the devil and the deep blue sea.

@asknights

Assuming you have set the email accounts up correctly which you have checked and are sure they are if your email account is not working on Apple email app on your Apple device and it is not working with Tbird on your PC that would mean both Apple and Windows and two different email clients have the same problem which is unlikely.

The problem must be with either your email account or with the way the BT servers are dealing with the account.

Either way that means the problem is with BT.

To turn off 2FA see link

https://www.bt.com/help/security/two-step-authentication

I doubt that will be the issue but it won't do any harm to check.

Re: BT Email account and Outlook client

Thank you gg30340 for your reply

I tried turning of the 2FA in my settings then re-set up the mail in Outlook and Apple and as you intimated  did not work help.    I then downloaded the BT Email app to my Iphone, (pitty they don't have PC version),  and low and behold that worked. So have some resemblence of Emial notifications back on my Phone.

Got me foxed, whatever the Apple or Outlook  client is sending to BT, god only knows.

Once again thank you for all your advice.  Hopefuly someone a BT will throw a magic switch and all will be working again.

Tony
