Strange coincidence....but since I made the comment about BT Email not being protected by 2 factor authentication....BT has removed the separate 'Email' option from the top of the MyBT welcome page of their website.
Is BT determined to drive its customer base away by making access as convoluted and difficult as possible?
I've been locked out of our account since an advisor persuaded me to get a new id. I was on chat for almost 4 hours to get it fixed and in the end I gave up. I'll have to contact them again at some point but I'm just tempted to leave in October when my contract ends. It's a complete farce.

It looks like somebody at BT has been tinkering with the MyBT web page and others which has removed the BT banner and buttons at the top of the page. I have notified the moderators of this to see if they can advise what is happening.
If you try now the BT banner is back along with the email button.
Perhaps the button was removed to force customers to go through MyBT and the 2 factor authentication in order to get to BT email (from further inside the MyBT portal)

No. If you had checked you would have seen that the whole BT banner and all he buttons were missing not just the email one. It was a glitch after some routine maintenance. The banner has been restored and it is fully working now.
You do not need to go through MyBT to logon to BTMail.
The BTMail logon page was not affected and if you had a shortcut saved to that page you would have been able to logon to webmail as normal.
BTMail is protected by 2FA. If your email account is not there is a problem if it has not activated on your account.
