I have an elderly friend, well into her 90's and a few months ago I assume she was switched to DV. I noticed each time I called her after this time it picked up on the 1571 messaging service after 30 seconds of the phone ringing but she had no idea what this was. I explained to her she needed to dial 1571 to listen to any messages but she can't grasp what I have been saying. When I see her (weekly) I check her phone and on one occasion just a few weeks ago she had 12 messages left and one was quite important from her GP instructing her to stop taking a certain medication. I have tried to disable this answering system but failed. She is not online so it is impossible to do that way. She is confused due to her advancing years and I would just like to get it off her phone but I cannot find a way. Can anyone help please

Try this
thank you for taking the time to post the link. I will look at that later today
Just call BT Customer Service on 150 and ask them to disable Voicemail (I can verify that this works). Incoming calls will then ring for about two minutes/forty rings before disconnecting if unanswered.
thank you!
