My BT8500 has a built in answer phone but since switching to DV this week calls do not go to it anymore. They go to 1571 which I don’t want because you can’t see if anybody has left a message. I know it’s supposed to change the tone if a message is waiting but we don’t make outgoing calls so will never hear the tone. I’ve changed the number of rings to the maximum but it still goes to 1571. Also I used to be able to scroll on my handset to see who had tried to call but now it just says ‘You cannot use that feature on this base’. It comes up with that message for pretty much everything I try to do. Also when somebody phones it only displays who they are for a little while so if you don’t get to phone quick enough you can’t see who it is. Just wanted to see if anybody here has any brain waves before getting in touch with BT. I’ve already spent a lot of time talking to them this week when the phone didn’t work at all.
so you went to MYBT and the digital voice and increase number of rings to max for DV 1571 and then reduced the number of rings on your 8500 so that answers before 1571?
I have a Panasonic cordless system & can confirm that imjolly’s suggestion works for that. Not sure about your other problems, as I’m not familiar with that model, but I don’t see the same problems on my phone however. It may be a problem with the caller display etc. settings on MyBT again. The short display time may well also be linked to 1571 taking over prematurely.
I changed the number of rings for 1571 via Mybt but don’t know how to change it for the landline answerphone. I think it’s possible from handset but not for me because that’s not working.
As I said, not familiar with the model, but it might be worth trying to configure it while it is disconnected from the hub. After all, those those settings are between the handset and the base. Nothing to do with DV.
try on phone
n the answer delay
f Select Menu, Answer Phone is displayed, press Select.
2. Press Settings is displayed, press Select.
3. Press Ans. & record or Answer only and press Select.
4. Answer delay is displayed,
(0-9 rings or Time saver) and select Save. Saved will be displayed.
I get as far as Ans & record, then get the message ‘You cannot use that feature on this base’.
Thank you. I disconnected it from router but it still has the same problem thank you for trying to help. It’s just weird because it worked fine before it switched to DV.
