Does anyone know if BT has solved the problem of call protect not working if you have fast fibre to home?

Not aware there is a problem, can you elaborate?
BT have told me (3 years ago ) that because we have fastfibre to home broadband ( already installed in new build) then call protect won’t work. They keep telling me it will be sorted but so far nothing changes.
Do you have Fibre voice (FVA) ? I.e do you plug your phone into the optical modem (ONT) rather than a copper master socket or BT Hub? That system is provided by Openreach rather than BT and is now obsolete. You will be moved to Digital Voice at some point whereupon Call protect will be available.
To be honest, Call protect isn't that brilliant anyway and a Call Blocking phone is a much better option. A blacklist is infinite whereas a whitelist is finite.
