Copper Landline

@OBOBE  All I can do is sympathise. If we have a power cut we have nothing. No way of getting hold of anyone. No way of calling emergency services. 

I stand by my original post. I don't know how it's acceptable to leave people in this situation. There should be provision. That is you can't switch off the copper in an area with no mobile reception, and it cannot be switched off until there is a reliable mobile signal. Then the companies are forced to put in decent mobile coverage. I'd have no complaint about losing the landline then (although power cut, uncharged devices.... Good old landline corded phone still works...)

The "copper" is not being switched off - the PSTN system, (Public Switched Telephone Network), is.

"Good old landline corded phone still works"

Until the time comes one day when the telephone exchange fails because it could no longer be maintained due to a lack of spare parts.
