DV Extensions ?

Go to solution

I just got fibre and DV installed and my old cordless DECT phone is working a treat at base station, however my upstairs extension that is just plugged into an electric socket, has a dial tone but seems unable to receive or make calls.

I live in an old cottage with thick stone walls but no idea if this is something to do with the extn's failure to work properly....can anyone advise me how to make it work right please. ?

Everything I've read suggests it ought to work as previously but it just doesn't.  Thankyou vm.

I'm assuming that by "extension" you mean an additional handset registered to the DECT base? If so then yes, it should work as before, unless you've now moved the base further away. In which case it might be borderline for range. Easy enough to test, just take it downstairs & see if it works there.

@Greyandblue

Try removing the power  to your DECT base station for about a minute.

Thankyou, sorry yes a cordless phone that is registered to the base unit.

I have brought it down and sure enough it works in the same room as the base is in. Still wont work in it's original position though.  So is there anything I can do so it will ?

As @rbz5416 , presumably you have moved the base station in order to plug it into the hub thus making the location of the second handset out of range. If the connection was marginal in the first place, only a slight change would be enough to prevent reach. It is not necessarily distance either, wireless signal propagation is a dark art, not a science.

I guess you'll need to find a solution to bring them closer together. A telephone extension lead on the base station or if you have FTTP, a longer ethernet cable between ONT & SH2.

A little embarrassed reply....it seems that simply unplugging and trying elsewhere was all it needed in order to spur it into action...it now works perfectly...so sorry for bothering you and thankyou for the suggestions. Signed daft bimbo 🙄

It just needed the DECT communication to be re-initialised.
