Digital Voice, BT Verve 500 and/or Caller ID

Since being forced into VOIP - Digital Voice - my Caller ID has not worked on my BT Verve 500  four phone set.

So I complained. "Your phones are not supported by Digital, £89 for a new set".

This is not correct, although you can make and receive calls. (Set the Voicemail number of rings to 10 if you turn the base unit answer phone on. Kicks in after 4 rings and saves possible  internet spyware accessing your private messages if they go to the Voicemail option.)

For anyone with these, or possibly older phones with an attached answerphone,  the issue is with the Adaptor.

Plugging a Verve Base into an Adaptor will not work as far as Caller ID is concerned. And the very unuseful Voicemail after 10 rings - diabled person not as fast on their feet - had to be "un ordered". No simple switch.

Plugging the base directly into the Router WILL allow Caller ID to work! Even though the router is in an awkward place. May mean using a different hand set to set and review messages, but it's all there in the Verve menu.

So, the Adaptor has been relegated to the shed and an old analogue phone attached.

@Arcadash

if you read the digital voice FAQ they may answer some of your questions which more than likely have been raised already.  did you try and old style filter in the adapter before connecting your phones?

Re: Digital Voice, BT Verve 500 and/or Caller ID

Sorry, what old style filters? If you mean the ones from 2002 ish, they are long gone.

The adaptor was placed several rooms away from the hub and is supposed to act as a wireless extension to the hub itself.

The fact that connecting directly to the hub allows CID to work and that connecting via the adaptor does not, suggests untested software.

If it was that easy, as reading the FAQ's - which I did - then why did it take 2 message and one voice session to NOT come up with an answer or suggestion at the BT end?

Re: Digital Voice, BT Verve 500 and/or Caller ID

if you read the FAQ you will realise that the adapter does not connect to hub via wifi but connects to hub by DECT.

the filter are still in use for many people still on adsl/vdsl connections without filtered master sockets but if you are positioning your adapter to far from hub for connection then a filter is not going to help

Filters are still very much in use for many people.

As well as providing filter functionality they also provide extra circuitry which is required by older devices and may resolve your problem.

Re: Digital Voice, BT Verve 500 and/or Caller ID

Filter made no difference.

At lease I posted a solution which will definitely work, and not just supposition. I have actually proven that connecting older Verve kit directly into the hub without a filter works as far as the Caller ID is concerned. The adaptors do not allow the same level of operation.

In addition, the hub extender disk fails to connect while an adaptor is connected.

One is DECT, the other WiFi, so where does that leave the discussion?

They are, or should be, on different frequencies.

Re: Digital Voice, BT Verve 500 and/or Caller ID

so just to clarify what you have tried

verve works connected to socket on hub as does caller ID

does the adapter connect to hub shown in hub manager when selecting phone number?

if adapter shows connected to hub then does verve work in adapter?  if it works does caller ID?  if no caller ID then can you connect filter to adapter and verve to filter and now do you get caller ID

no point trying filter in adapter before making sure adapter connects to hub and verve works in adapter
