Digital Voice Query...

I use an "EE" wif-fi device for ALL of my internet use.  I have no router, therefore, so...how can I have "Digital Voice", at all?  I don't want to have to have a router in my home and I shouldn't be forced to have one, or forced out of the use of my "landline" phone because I want no router in my home.  What happens with my type of case?

You post isn’t particularly clear , but presumably you are stating that you don’t have a broadband service on your landline , and therefore how can you have Digital Voice , especially when you won’t allow a router to be provided…..

there are two solutions, one is ( and probably the most likely to be used ) the broadband connection and ATA are located at the exchange building and the copper pair to your home remains as it is , so from your point of view nothing changes …the second solution is you are provided with a mains powered ‘box’ that you plug your phone into , and remotely you are connected to broadband, you may say  ‘ that box is a router and I don’t want a router ‘ but that would  show a lack of understanding of what a router actually is , this ‘box’ may be based on cut down version of a router, but doesn’t need WiFi or any routing capabilities , ( so isn’t a router )  as yet nothing has  been published, it’s a theoretical solution, hence it being the less likely solution.

There have  be many things that the ‘resistant to change’ brigade were opposed to , removal of leaded petrol, compulsory seatbelt wearing , removal of analogue TV broadcasting , ultimately DV will be the same as them ,it will  introduced and the forerunner removed , those people railing against DV will have eventually have no choice if they want to keep a  ‘landline’ type telephony .

So, no, I don't have a broadband service on my landline.  I have no fixed broadband, at all.

The fitting of a box in order to have the Digital Voice service sounds reasonable, if the switchover has to happen.  Given that I have almost no immune system and can't let anybody near me, and given that there is nobody else who could stand in for me (those can't be allowed in, either), it's difficult for me to see how a box of any form could be fitted.

with your health problems you should be exempt from DV switch over until at least Jan 2027 but sooner or later the existing analogue system is switched of by openreach

As stated , the most likely way to provide telephony to BT customers that don’t have broadband will not need any involvement from the customer, no visit , no new equipment at the customer end , in the exchange your ‘line’ disconnected from the PSTN equipment and connected to an ATA which in turn is connected to broadband…..all you would need to be aware of , is the day this is happening , and as stated , the last group to be migrated almost certainly will be telephone only customers , so sometime in 2027 assuming the date isn’t changed again due to political pressure.

In the unlikely event the solution is the second one , you are sent  a ‘box ’ in the post, no doubt it will fit through a letter box , you unpack it , unplug your landline phone and connect the box to where you unplugged the phone  from , then plug the phone into the box , and plug the box into the mains, that doesn’t need a visit either .
