Digital Voice switched on today but DECT phone still working on extension socket

I recently took out a new contract ( still FTTC as FTTP not quite ready here) and was told I had to go to Digital Voice so a new SH2 was sent out as my HH6 didn't have a telephone port. Equipment arrived on Thursday and I set up the Hub on Saturday ready for activation date today.

I've now received two emails from BT to say that my BB and Digital Voice have been set up. The Phone section in the Hub settings is no longer grey so it definitely appears to have been activated.

The odd thing is that my DECT phone is still working on an extension socket whereas I expected it to stop working. Can I just leave it like that or do I need to plug it into the phone socket of the Hub?

Depends what you mean by ‘ working on an extension socket ‘ , often the PSTN telephone service is stopped rather than immediately ceased , so a dialtone remains on the service , but it’s a ‘soft’ dialtone, not allowing you to make any calls ,( apart from 999 etc )  , if sufficiently interested you could dial 17070 from the PSTN service and check what number is returned , if it’s ‘your’ number , try an incoming call to your landline to see what ‘rings’ , the DV service or the PSTN service, if the PSTN ‘rings’ , DV is not completely set up , just the outgoing side .
I dare say most people will transfer their equipment to the DV service and never check the traditional phone socket after migration, it’s possible that during the change over the PSTN appears working for a short period before the PSTN service  ( incoming and outgoing ) is ceased completely

After DV is provided there is no point leaving your phone in an extension socket unless it’s wired into the SH2

Thanks. I hadn’t actually tried the phone and just assumed it was still working because there was a dial tone.

i tried 17070 and the number quoted was not my number but another number on my exchange. Tried dialling my mobile out of interest and it said this number has not been recognised. So dialled my own landline number and nothing “rang” but eventually went through to 1571 messaging service.

Ive now set up the Digital Voice adapter as my Truecall unit and DECT base is in another room from the Hub so rather than trailing wires I’ve used that just now. Tested it out by calling mobile from landline and landline from mobile. So far so good.

Just need to check Truecall’s settings so that 1571 doesn’t kick in before Truecall’s answerphone does. Or can I turn off 1571 completely?

Mine was switched over about 12 months ago.  The old phone socket did continue to "work" for a couple of months after but only in-so-far as a temporary number had been assigned to it while my number transfered to DV.

If  you want to continue with your traditional extensions you need to transfer that wiring to the SH2 socket.  There are various posts on here as to how to do it.  Also this is worth a look, about halfway down:

Thanks. I wasn't that bothered with using the extension socket but I have encountered an issue with the Digital Voice adapter that doesn't happen when the Truecall/Phone is plugged directly into the Hub.

If I use the phone's memory to dial a number it appears to dial out then simply returns to a dialling tone and doesn't connect. Very odd.

I'll either buy a telephone extension cable or buy a longer Hub to Master socket cable and move the Hub. Isit a standard RJ11 to RJ11 cable I need for Hub to Master socket?
