Since moving to digital voice, my handset does not ring for incoming calls. I have bt 8500 cordless twin handsets
What is the base wired into phone line wise? Ideally it should be into the back of the router
Yes it correctly placed in the back of the router. All instructions were followed for the set up
How have you established that the phone doesn’t ring for incoming calls ?, is it simply people have said they called you but got no answer , when you know you were in at the time but never heard the phone ‘ringing’ , or you have called yourself from your mobile (for example) but the landline didn’t ring ?
Although it could be a ‘no ringing’ problem , it could also be that in effect incoming calls are not yet routed to your DV service even if outgoing calls are OK , a few things to try , call 17070 from your landline and check the correct number is read back to you , call your landline from a mobile and even if the landline phone isn’t ‘ringing’ , answer it anyway and see if the call is connected, reconnect your phone to the master socket in the same way it was before DV , call your landline number and see if it rings in the old socket.
I suspect it’s not ‘no ringing’ as such ( in that the incoming call is present, it just isn’t making the phone instrument ‘ring’ , but the migration of your number from the PSTN service to the DV service has not completed successfully leaving your number in limbo between the two services , basically incoming calls are disappearing into the ‘system’ and not presented to your DV service.
Is there any history to your landline number , like it was ported around different suppliers in the past , or has it always been with BT at the address you are living at ?
I have tried ringing it from my mobile. I have also had this number since I moved to this house in 2003. It was firstly with talktalk and then transferred to BT
Thanks for confirming that @GaynorToy.
What exactly happens when you try ringing this from your mobile?
Did you try picking up like @iniltous recommended to see if the call connected, and did you try calling 17070 too?
