Re: Fibre to home and Digital Voice

Dear Distinguished Sage.

Thanks for your response.

1. No, its not in the FAQ's that I read. I followed the link in the original email notifying me about FTTP,

to https://www.bt.com/help/landline/what-is-digital-voice-and-how-can-i-get-it-

And did not, do not, read anything about proprietary.

2. Tell me the FAQ link you refer to pls. I will check it out.

3. I did take the time to go to the local "experts " forum where I carefully explained with diagrams my set up. I could have expected to get the facts here and was **not** told anything about proprietary.  The expert agreed that if my Draytek had VOIP and phone sockets (it does) then that could be a way to get DV over copper or glass.

Re: Fibre to home and Digital Voice

WSH, thanks for this - I am searching for your details using various search strings and not really finding your specific reply for this . I can carry on searching - but could you pls help me out and send the specific link to yr reply on this.
I am basically assuming / hoping that the HH2 will at a hw level connect ethernet from a LAN port to my Draytek thru its WAN2 port. I'd anticipate that the HH2 LAN will live on an IP address served by DHCP from the Draytek?
As such I would expect that the HH2 transparently passes data to the Draytek, i.e. no data inspection nor restrictions on VPN etc.
Yes I understand DV is a "channel" run over a comms path and that could be copper / VDSL or glass. Many thanks in advance..

Re: Fibre to home and Digital Voice

Ahh right those FAQ's   :0).

Not the FAQ's I followed from the link in the BT email then.

What I did was to follow BT instructions from their emails which led to the other FAQ's .

How many FAQ's are there?  How many FAQ's pages are we supposed to see to get the err facts   :0)

Anyway if you can, perhaps you could advise the BT experts on the roadshows to see these FAQ's too, so you're all on same page. If I had been told last thursday at the local gathering with BT experts "DV only works  from HH2" it would have saved a lot of time..

Cheers

Re: Fibre to home and Digital Voice

The FAQ on this forum were put together by form member @licquorice  and like all members of the forum is just a customer and not employed by BT. While the forum's FAQ are accurate and agreed by the forum moderators they are not the BT FAQ.

@Sue41

This thread has nothing to do with being charged for a Smarthub 2. Please see your own thread.

Re: Fibre to home and Digital Voice

Hello Sue41,

My situation is that I am currently not using a BT hub at all.

However, going forward, I will have to use the HomeHub2 in order to get a phone service using BT's Digital Voice; (and indeed internet data).

My understanding is that the HomeHub2 would be provided free of charge.

Hope that helps :0)

Re: Fibre to home and Digital Voice

So I revised my diagrams to reflect my new learnings and using the diag from the start of this messaging chain.. This indicated a 4 port ONT box.. Could I get one FoC?

New queries. Help please to answer these and settle the technical issues.

>Diag 1 - copper wires / VDSL -> HH2= DV+internet

NEW3_VDSL_DV_Cu.JPG

If I keep copper wires /VDSL and use the HH2 for my phone, I can connect the HH2 to my Draytek - but

1) do I use the LAN or WAN2 port on the Draytek?

2) I am not sure how the IP addressing would work with my Draytek - would the HH2 accept DHCP served from Draytek? or do I have to work some static / reservation scheme? Does HH2 allow a static IPaddress?

>Diag2, FTTP -> Using an ONT 4 port -> HH2

NEW3_FTTP_DV_Glass.JPG

 In principle I can connect Draytek to the 4 port ONT (If I can get this of course), or to the HH2 (as before).

3) Presumably better to connect Draytek to the fibre optic modem - right?

4) again, would I connect to the Draytek Wan2, or LAN?.

5) Again will IP addressing work by DHCP from Draytek.

Thanx for reading..
