I’ve just tried that by ringing landline from mobile and it worked! - yay! Thanks so much. If the problem can’t be rectified completely at least I can insert those digits beforehand.

did you actually go to MYBT as suggested by @rbz5416 ? was withheld number still showing as 'add now'[?
Yes I did thanks. Withheld number is not showing at all only Caller Display, which is on.
It will almost certain to be an exchange data error, where the incorrect information is held because its not in sync with your account, that its why it needs a proper investigation.
The problem is finding someone who is still familiar with the old exchanges that are being de-commissioned, to be replaced by BT Digital Voice, where the calls are carried over the Internet, and terminate on the BT Smart Hub 2.
I am assuming you are not on BT Digital Voice yet, as that would be a different issue.
No I’m not on Digital voice. I live in a remote area so it’s likely to be old systems. I just can’t understand why this suddenly happened without me asking for it as the system was working as it should until about 6 months ago?
It’s so inconvenient as I need to order Farm feed for the livestock and most companies ignore withheld numbers. I will just have to use 1470 before ringing those numbers until this can be sorted.

If you can't resolve it any other way, it might be worth asking to be transferred to Digital Voice. A remote area shouldn't be a barrier, all lines will be transferred to Digital Voice by 2025 anyway.
