Re: 2nd router

Then there is nothing else you can do except run an Ethernet cable.

If there is already an 8 wire phone cable, you could try terminating an RJ45 at plug each end and see how that performs.

Re: 2nd router

Are you able to run utp (ethernet) cable outside your building? This would be a better option than using powerline adapters.

Re: 2nd router

If there is a phone  extension socket in the attic, simply move the router to there and plug it in the extension socket.

How were you intending to connect a second router?

Re: 2nd router

Ok thanks for the replies.

Can you not use another router and use the same broadband as the main router.

Thank you.

Re: 2nd router

The main router will stay downstairs as the rest of my family use this.

I thought you could just simply plug in another router into a socket? I’m a person who knows little about all this technical stuff so apologies.

I guess I just thought you could possibly get a second router and use that in my attic and use the Ethernet but perhaps not?

Thank you

Re: 2nd router

No, you cannot do that. You can only connect one router to the phone line. The only options you have are those that have been described previously.

Re: 2nd router

Ok appreciate it.

I also heard you can use an ethernet switch.

Is that true?

Re: 2nd router

It has already been explained. To use an Ethernet switch will require you running an Ethernet cable from the BT hub up to the room that you want your xbox.
