BT home phone on a SIP device

Go to solution

Good afternoon,

I'm a BT customer and I have a normal phone line. I connect my traditional landline phone directly into the wall.

Is it possible to use my phone number in a SIP client?

I have been in Germany and there you can use your home phone in any 3rd party SIP client, for example  I used "microsip". In the attached images you can see the type of settings SIP clients need.

Thanks for any help with this, or even confirmation that this is impossible.

To clarify this is mainly for fun.

Regards,

James.

@podkyugsqs

Welcome to this user forum for BT Retail phone and broadband customers.

You would have to port your phone number to a VOIP provider, there is no method to do that with your existing broadband connection.

BT have their own proprietary VOIP system called BT Digital Voice, which only works with the BT Smart Hub 2.

Many thanks for the reply. Interesting that it isn't built-in. I'll take a look at these other services.

you have 2 options
1) BT have their own proprietary VOIP system called BT Digital Voice, which only works with the BT Smart Hub 2. = Problem with this is you can use the Digital phone provided by BT ,AND Not any other SIP PHONES or clients .
2) you can ask BT for business solutions then you can have any SIP phones or soft clients - but it will cost you more .
3) other alternative is for you to look for SIP telephone services they will port your PSTN and also give you soft client .
4) I don't think BT so far gone as give the soft client options to home users { on business systems - you can have Cisco Jabber client on your pc and phone + sip phone at home but this is not for residential users , I think
