Re: Can this box be changed to a smaller one?

I think you misunderstand, what does the black cable plugged into the socket in your first picture connect to?

I did misunderstand, that just goes to the phone, a whilte one also comes out the back, looking about the same type of cable that goes into the box

Re: Can this box be changed to a smaller one?

This is like pulling teeth. So where is your hub/router connected?

Re: Can this box be changed to a smaller one?

As i said, i am presuming to a wire behind furnature, dont worry about it and I apoligse for nto able to give more info, not able to physically move the furniture at the moment so cannot check detail.

That box has  1 wire going in abck and anohter going out, then through the wall into the lounge but then it goes behind furnaute i cant get to, but i then have a RJ45 cable going into the back of the hub so i presume i something there, i just cant check as cannot remove furniture

Re: Can this box be changed to a smaller one?

It sounds as though there is an extension phone socket or RJ11 socket behind the furniture but, without more clarity, it’s impossible to untangle what is going on and the part being played by the box you want to downsize.  Without knowing the part it is playing it is difficult to give advice on what you can do with it.

Under the circumstances I would expect an RJ11 cable to run from behind the furniture and plug into the DSL port on the hub.  Are you sure it’s an RJ45, as that won’t fit the DSL port on the Smart Hub 2?  If it is an RJ45, what port does it plug into, exactly?

Re: Can this box be changed to a smaller one?

From what you describe, once the phone has gone, you could replace that master socket with a BT77a.

Ideally you would then replace the socket that has the router connected with the removed master socket.

Re: Can this box be changed to a smaller one?

Will that not involve moving the phone, if that is the black cable?

@WSH

From the OP:

"As we remove the phone line soon..."

Re: Can this box be changed to a smaller one?

Ah, good point.

May I suggest the equivalent screw connector block would be easier for the OP than the IDC version?

Re: Can this box be changed to a smaller one?

I think you're going to have to face the fact that you'll need to trace ALL the cables, whether they're behind furniture or not, and provide a diagram of them, before anyone can advise on whether you can remove or change your connection boxes
