Flatter plug?

The plug for my Openreach junction box (the one before the router) is so big that it is causing an issue with furniture.

The plug says it is:

- 100-240V

- 50/60Hz

- 6.0W

- 12.0V

- 0.5A

Has anyone replaced this plug with a flatter one? Is there an option on sale?

that is not just an ordinary plug but specific to your ONT.  You could connect a  2 way trailing extension and connect the ONT plug to the extension

That's not going to be suited to the challenge I have, sadly. It's a shame that the plug is so big. It's causing a big issue.

It's not just a plug of course - it has a transformer in it with the voltage output required by the ONT. There won't be any "flatter" versions available I'm afraid.

Just for future reference, the box is called an ONT (Optical Network Terminal).  The plug is actually a low voltage PSU (Power Supply Unit), rather than a simple plug.  I have the same type and I've just measured it.  It stands 1" higher than a normal plug, so I'm not sure how that is a challenge.

If you can be a bit clearer about what this "challenge" is we may be able to offer a better solution.

Get a competent person/electrician to extend the cable so that you can plug it into another electrical socket or get Openreach out to move the ONT to a different location where size of the plug won't be an issue. It will cost you about £150 or more to do that.

With at least most of our ONTs using a common socket size (unlike the SmartHub 2) you could change to a 12V power adapter that runs from a regular UK 3 pin plug to a figure 8 or clover-leaf socket.  With just 2A being required, you'll be better off getting a 'quality' switching supply, but they are easily available on-line.  Cannot stress enough that the power supply needs to be designed for either IT or medical use, so don't just get the cheapest one going!  *I would not consider this type of adapter to be pet friendly - due to chewing!

You can also get compatible power supplies that are just flatter - probably about twice the height of a standard UK plug!

Probably easier to just rearrange your furniture
