My old laptop runs WindowsXP. Can I connect wirelessly to my new hub or do I need to use Ethernet connection?

you should be able to connect to the new hub wifi.

if replacing an old hub then I would ,to save you effort, change the new hub SSID and wifi password to that of your existing hub then your wifi devices should connect automatically without you having to do each device manually
