So to summarise for all those as confused as I am:
You’ve been a BT Customer for decades but you’ve received a random call presumably on your landline from a EE telemarketer who by your own admission has talked you into a ‘free’ gift from EE even though you are a BT customer?
Is this correct?
Me too and I'm relatively thick compared to others here. If I could get my partner to ditch landline phone and use mobiles then I'd happily have a non BT/EE type 4g/5g hotspot router supplied by some mobile networks, Three for example.
On the phone to BT again this morning (0330 123 4150.) I asked twice “are BT and EE essentially the same company.” The answer twice - yes.
The BT rep who I am talking to just now, also has records of the EE hub sent to me in front of him - in the BT call centre. He is trying to sort things out.
Just confirmed by the BT REP, that the EE hub is totally free and no attached data costs! Case closed, I am happy now. Download speed this morning 126 MBPS, which is a great improvement on before.
So now folks know, nothing unusual if EE telemarketers call BT customers with offers 👍
There is no such thing as a "free lunch". Did they say that the data it uses is free and that it is unlimited data and for "life?
Keep us informed and post back in a month or two just to confirm that you have not had a bill for using it.
I asked about the data twice, and he specifically said twice that the data usage was “free.” I will set another reminder to ask them yet again.
Thanks.
Ask them if it is free for life not just a months trial and that you want that in writing.
Will you connect all your peripherals to this free router. Can you access it's home page via it's IP address so as to alter it's SSID for example a you can with 'normal' BT/EE routers such as the BT SH2?
I can’t understand the OP’s insistence to continually call BT about an EE product ‘sold’ to them by EE , seemingly they haven’t once called EE , it is bizarre to be calling BT about this EE offer , and not EE the company that actually provided it, even if BT can access EE records , it’s also strange that if they are essentially the same company, they have different pricing , different product portfolios , different customer service numbers etc …
it seems nonsensical to call the ‘wrong’ company and not call EE but whatever , hopefully the OP won’t be back in a month or so complaining that they have received a bill for this device, if they do , hopefully they will post about it on the correct company forum
