PPPoE credentials for BT Fibre 2 (FTTC)

Hello I have just signed up with BT for their "Fibre 2" service which I believe is FTTC and I've received a Smart Hub 2.

I want to use my own router (Ubiquiti UDM Pro) to connect and I've bought a modem (ECI B-FOCuS V-2FUb for VDSL connections).

I have used these details on my router (Ubiquiti UDM Pro) based on instructions in these forums:
Connection = PPPoE
Username = bthomehub@btbroadband.com
Password = BT
DNS Server = 9.9.9.9
Use VLAN = off

Interestingly the connection is marked as active but I don't have an IP address and I've tested that I don't seem to get a valid connection.

Re: PPPoE credentials for BT Fibre 2 (FTTC)

Fibre 2 could be over FTTC or FTTP these days.  I take it you are plugging the modem into the phone socket?  In which case it will be FTTC on VDSL2.  Try VLAN tag 101.

I think, if memory serves, PPPOE only applies to FTTP.

Re: PPPoE credentials for BT Fibre 2 (FTTC)

As far as I'm aware, ECI modems are locked and not user accessible in order to configure VLAN id. However, if it is an ex BT modem, it should have the correct configuration anyway.

Are you sure your account has been activated? Does the supplied BT hub work ok?

Edit: @WSH  both FTTP and FTTC use PPPoE.

ADSL uses PPPoA

Further edit: not sure if the ECI modem is auto sensing  between ADSL and VDSL. The Huawei HG612 modem is a better option and is simple to unlock.

@licquorice   So it does.  Thanks for that.  My old Draytek just specifies it as VDSL2 in the old FTTC settings, so I had to look it up to remind myself.

Re: PPPoE credentials for BT Fibre 2 (FTTC)

Thanks @licquorice  and @WSH for all your valuable responses.

I have ensured the connection works using the Home Hub 2.

I tried adding VLAN 101 on my Ubiquiti setup which didn't seem to do anything.

I tried adding the DNS servers that were listed in my Home Hub 2's settings but that didn't seem to do anything.

I am buying a used Huawei VDSL modem from eBay in case your comments re unlocking to update the VLAN ID is what I need!

I notice you are attempting load balancing 2 wan interfaces, have you tried just configuring your router for a single wan interface to see if that is causing the problem.

Re: PPPoE credentials for BT Fibre 2 (FTTC)

You can verify if your modem is working correctly by setting your BT Smart Hub2 to FTTP mode and connecting the modem to port 4 which will be a WAN port.

Re: PPPoE credentials for BT Fibre 2 (FTTC)

@licquorice I tried connecting the EDI VDSL modem to the WAN port on the BT hub and tried connecting (in the management interface of the BT hub) and it didn't seem to connect.

So I think it's all pointing to the EDI modem (bought off eBay) being the source of the problem...I'll soon have the Huawei which I hope I can use to solve the problem and post back here to confirm the solution for others.

Thanks everyone!

Yep, looks like a bricked modem.
