Removal of socket

When we were having work done we had an extra BT socket put in our lounge (it is not the master one). We want to remove it as we’re about to have carpet put down but am not sure how to. When the engineer put it in he said I’d need to do some to the master socket if we ever got rid of it (maybe put a filter on/off??) but I can’t remember what he said.
Can anyone help please? Can it just be unwired and shoved under the floor?

Re: Removal of socket

You need to disconnect the other end of the cable in the master socket first. It should be connected to terminals 2&5 on the removable faceplate.

Re: Removal of socket

Thanks. Is there any chance of causing a problem with the internet? I work from home and am nervous about getting this wrong!

Re: Removal of socket

Only if you disconnect the wrong wires in the master socket.

You are more likely to have problems if you just disconnect the wires at the extension and leave them connected in the master.

Re: Removal of socket

Ok thanks. I’ve opened the master socket and this is what’s inside. Do I just pull out the bit with blue wires? I feel like that might have been what the engineer told me to do. I think there was another step too though 😬.

Just disconnect the blue wires.

Re: Removal of socket

The extension has been wired to the data extension terminals so if you used a phone at the extension, you would have needed to plug the filter in first.

Re: Removal of socket

Ok thanks for your help. I’ve done that now, do I just leave them in the box?

Re: Removal of socket

Up to you whether you completely remove the cable or leave it,  in case you want to use it in the future.
