Hello,
Really struggling to control and restrict my kids internet access to specific websites, devices that connect to the wi-fi, screen time on the present hub. Kids are abusing their time on social media platforms, playing online games.
Is it possible to replace the current hub with my own router which will allow me to have better parental controls? Any recommendations that are easy to setup, happy to pay little bit extra for better product.
TIA
Hi @triplexxx2070 welcome to the community and thanks for posting, you can block social media and games using parental controls but you will need to choose the strict filters or customise the filters to block both at the same time.
The Hub also has an Access control feature where you can pause the broadband for periods of time for individuals or groups of devices. Check out the links I've posted for more info on how to set them up.
Thanks
Neil
Yes you can use any third party router that is suitable for your connection type (you haven't said if you have ADSL, VDSL, G.Fast or FTTP) although if you have Digital Voice you will need to use the SH2 to access it.
I have BT Fibre 2, I don't have digital voice
Then any VDSL modem/router will suffice. It needs to be a combined modem/router rather than standalone router. Asus and TP link models are popular.
Keep the SH2 router, turn off wireless and get a decent wired wireless point(s) with access control. Ubiquity get good recommendations.
Great, I'll look into it.....is there anyway of seeing how good/bad the parental controls are before purchasing?
I have found the parental controls and restricted websites which helps but it affects all users including myself. I require the restriction for specific devices which there appears to be no options.
The forum rules do no permit links to other manufacturers. A search for “wireless points with parental controls” results in many suitable examples from reputable manufacturers.
