Replacing Smart Hub with a TP-Link router

Hi all

I've wanted to upgrade my router for a while, intending to improve the Wi-Fi signal. I've bought a TP-Link AX5400 Archer AX72 Pro, thinking I could just replace the Smart Hub 2 with it. Now, when googling, I'm seeing conflicting advice that I can simply do this, or that I'd actually need to keep the Smart Hub connected, but in modem mode.

Would anyone be able to walk me through what I'd need to do to get it all set up and working, please?  I'm on full fibre 500, with no phone.

Do you have telephony from BT , already on DV or will be moved onto DV at some point , if you do then the BT SH2 router is needed for telephony, if you don’t have telephony or have it but don’t require it to work , third party routers generally will work with the appropriate credentials entered   , I dare say someone will be along to say if your router is compatible or not …FWIW you can always run another router from the SH2 that way you keep telephony and use the third party router as well

as you don't have phone service then you don't need to use the BT hub.  just follow the tplink quick setup and enter username  bthomehub@btbroadband.com and any password many just use BT but anything is ok

I've been using a TP-Link Archer GX90 for the last 3 years both with BT and now with Plusnet. No issues whatsoever. Haven't used an ISP router for years having previously used Netgear routers. Also, obviously I don't have a landline. Despite previously being required to have a landline prior to being on FTTP, I haven't actually actively used a home landline for a decade.
