Slow Upload

I am uploading a very large folder from my E drive to Microsoft One drive Online  (folder size is 165GB)

I have ran a speed test and download speed is 15Mb and upload speed is 2.5Mb and the results said "your hub speeds are as expected)

However this upload started 3 days ago and it is only on 22.6GB  of 165GB.

This is using wi-fi, however I connected my laptop directly to my hub with an ethernet cable over night but still it wasn't any faster!

I contacted BT and they refreshed the line but made no difference.

Does anyone have any suggestions

Re: Slow Upload

Without knowing what type of broadband you are on and the profile you pay for , it’s impossible to know if that speed good , bad or indifferent,  and if you are on a rate adaptive system like FTTC the distance you are from the cabinet is relevant to the speeds you can achieve ……FWIW upload isn’t guaranteed anyway .

A general point is , more often than not , these speeds are quoted in MB not Mb’s , so 2.5MB is 20Mb , which is the upload speed of F2 (80Mb download) profile .

Are you using your broadband for other things while uploading this file ? , obviously if you are browsing, watching TV on line etc . this will be using the same bandwidth.

Re: Slow Upload

Using the figures you've provided and not second guessing:

165GB is 1,32Tb
So divide that by 2.5Mbps = 528K seconds, or a couple of hours over 6 days!

That's if everything goes to plan!  But you are uploading to OneDrive, so there's indexes and other stuff to take into account so it will take time, but it will eventually get there!

I only learn by making mistakes and owning up to them - boy do I learn a lot!
