How do I get my Teckin smart plugs to connect was to turn off 5GHz and fix the 2.4GHz channel(11) then reboot the SH2. Worked every time.
How do I go from 5ghz to 2.4 GHz channel (11)
Hi @SBM_68,
Welcome to the BT Community
To change the channel settings for your router, first load up the admin page by going to 192.168.1.254 Then select Advanced Settings> Wireless and you will need to login with the admin password which is located on the back of your Smart Hub.
Once logged in to this page you will be able to see the options to turn off 5GHz and set your desired channel etc.
Alex
I have just purchased a Teckin Smart plug and it doesn't want to connect to my router!
I see on here that the Teckin only connects to the 2.4GHz on my router.
If I turn off the 5GHz part of the router what implications will I experience.
Hi @farrantc
Surely once connected via 2.4 you can turn back on the 5Ghz band?
Thanks, i'm a complete novice
I checked to see what was connected to the 5GHz and all my mobile devices are connected, will they still work?
As @HHGTTG has posted once you have connected the teckin to the hub 2.4ghz network then you just re-enable the 5ghz network on your hub. As the teckin can't 'see' the 5ghz network is should not affect the existing connection
Basically when you first set up the plugs they connect directly to your phone app rather than the BT Hub (ad-hoc mode), if your phone is connected to the Hub via the 5Ghz wifi, it won't see the 2.4Ghz wifi from the plug. Turning off the 5Ghz on the Hub forces your phone to use 2.4Ghz when it can then see the plug.
Once everything is set up, the plugs connect to the Hub rather than your phone, thus you can turn the 5Ghz back on again. The plug talks to the hub at 2.4Ghz and then talks to your phone at 5Ghz.
