Using 3rd Party TP-Link Router

Guys I am sick of the HomeHub rebooting and I want to use a new TP Link modem (TD-W8961N(EU) V 4.0) purely to connect as I have  a TP Link access point to connect it to.

I simply cannot get it to connect.

I have used the wizard and I entered bthomehub@btbroadband.com as the username and I've tried no password and simply 'bt' but no joy.

I don't know if it's anything to do with all of the other settings on the config. Can anyone help?

Re: Using 3rd Party TP-Link Router

A few details will help.

What service do you have, FTTP, FTTC, ADSL or G.Fast

Which model TP Link router do you have

What type of broadband connection do you have, and what  model of the TP Link modem are you using?

Sorry I have now updated the post with the details. I believe it is just standard FTTC from BT. We dont have FTTP in y village.

@flummoxed_support

That is only an ADSL router, not VDSL, so it will not work.

Thank you so much! I've been pulling my hair out with this!

I will give that one a go and see what happens.

Thanks

Re: Using 3rd Party TP-Link Router

Provided you do not have a G.Fast connection. That would be the case if you have a broadband connection greater than 80Mbs.

Re: Using 3rd Party TP-Link Router

OK So, I bought the suggested modem and I still have exactly the same issue.

There is virtually to difference between models other than the colour of the interface.

The same thing happens exactly as before. Status goes to 'activation' then 'down'. No connection.

Re: Using 3rd Party TP-Link Router

That isn't the 9970 that @Keith_Beddoe recommended and is another ADSL only modem/ router.
