IPC 6023 ERROR MESSAGE -TNT SPORTS HD- BT(HUMAX) BOX

Go to solution

TNT sports channels are consistently either unavailable due to the above error or they will suddenly start freezing until, usually, completely breaking up and then displaying this message.

Is there any reason why the old boxes are now incompatible with TNT HD broadcasts?

Probably because they are old boxes

That sounds like an educated guess.

Can anyone confirm whether technically these boxes are no longer up to the job of whatever TNT HD broadcasts use?

You can be as technical as you like

At the end of the day it's still an old box

If you're on a contract ask about a pro box upgrade

Good afternoon @homerhotspur.

I've checked up on this one, and there aren't any known issues with TNT on the older Humax boxes, and the issues you're experiencing are unlikely to be due to age.

Normally the IPC 6023 error references multicast packet loss, and is often linked with your home's broadband connection.

We've had a number of threads on this, so I'd recommend checking out some of the steps shared here if you haven't already:

Solved: BT Sport - Error code IPC6023 - BT Community

Thanks for checking this. I did find it unlikely it would just be that old boxes suddenly couldn't work with TNT Sports or there would be many more questions like mine.

Having already tried many restarts of power connectors, changes of ethernet cables  and even a factory re-set of the box, I'm wondering if there is  a simple  check which can be carried out remotely to see if there is a problem with multicast packet loss to a subscriber on request?

Thanks for confirming that you've tried all of these steps for me, @homerhotspur.

Occasionally this has been down to issues directly on your account too, so I would recommend giving our TV technical team a call.

They'll be able to check over everything at our end, and if needs be advise on how this can be investigated further.

Ouch! The moment you mentioned power connectors probably gave you the reason for your issues. Try connecting direct to the router with an ethernet cable to rule out any problems with your broadband. I'm guessing the connectors are the problem.

Yes, I wish I could do this but it is impossible with our set up. That is why I would rather like a BT Pro box because of its wi - fi  capability but think I will have to wait until I am out of contract to get one, I've had the extenders for years. Had to get some replacements on e bay a few years ago for the first BT provided pair but all appears to be working ok although it would be nice to remove the obvious potential weak link in my set up.

@homerhotspur It could be worth having a check to see what speed your Powerline adapters are rated to.

Some will only support up to 100 Mbps, and sometimes your ethernet cables will only support up to a certain speed too.

This is something I experienced first hand when I upgraded to Full Fibre and wondered why my speeds weren't improving, but it's also worth noting that in general your electrical circuitry will provide more resistance than a direct ethernet connection.

Whilst I can't promise it's something they'll be able to sort, it's definitely worth reaching out to our tech guys and there's the possibility a replacement could be available should we be unable to resolve things otherwise.
