This article is on the Mail online. Looks like BT Sport channels getting the chop, for new channels. In the article it says about how much subscribers may have to pay.

@Carlushai don't see the point of your article as that's exactly what BT have done merged with another company rather than the other option to sell off the rights. Either way BT are not sole owners of Thier premier League rights.

If WBD choose to exercise their rights as part of the joint venture, BT won't own any Premier League rights because WBD will own the entire thing, but that was the plan all along.

That's some take to an article which is in essence pure speculation. FWIW a rebrand is completely different to channels being chopped

Presumably this rebranding will address the issue that BT Sport is largely premium content and will need to be reflected in the pricing structure. This will then allow the content to be incorporated into the Discovery+ app which will, in turn, see the very sad demise of the superb BT Sport app.

Well, they are putting together two sports brands into one and like any business, will want to save money as they go.

I think it has always been inevitable that the overall number of channels would come down as they mix up the rights and try to make savings. Rather than running two channels with 50% repeats on each to fill the EPG, you would run one with less repetition and costs, no?

Just look at the app situation. Eurosport Player has already gone and we know the BT Sport app is going as everything gets folded into Discovery+.

Eurosport Player is still running and shows on my account that it is due to auto-renew in a couple of months.

As I type it has Eurosports 1 &2, plus two additional live streams.  But everything is now on Discovery+.

You can't sign up to Eurosport Player any longer, it was retired to new subscribers on 13th January, existing subscribers will be pushed to Discovery+ when the current player is retired which will be this year at some point.

I wrote about this back in 2020 on the forum.

They did try and get me to go over to Discovery+ but with no discount. Eurosport Player offer runs at £19.99 a year.

At the time I had free Discovery+ without Sport from Sky - so it would cose of £6.99pm or £19.99pa.

They agreed to leave the Player sub running.

But now BT and Sky give sport free to with Discovery+ so I would not be renewing anyway.

As Discovery+ app still seems to evolve but BT Sport app still hasn't got Eurosport - I suspect the future is the Discovery+ app.
