Hi,
There is a BT manhole/footway cover in front of our home. We're considering alternatives to relocate this away from the main entrance.
Please assist me with the following questions:
1) Is it possible to move the BT manhole off the private property?
2) What would the cost be to move this?
3) We contacted Openreach rearrangement, but we have not received a response. Is there another person we can get in touch with to help us with this?

This is a BT Retail Customer Forum, and has no connection to Openreach.

Assuming you have a few hundred thousands pounds spare.
I would forget the whole idea.
How do you know that is an Openreach jointbox cover , it’s a ‘precinct cover’ , where the jointbox cover uses the same paving as the surrounding footpath , often used at the request of councils to avoid a block of concrete ( the normal material a jointbox cover is made from ) spoiling the look of the rest of the paving , and if OR were asked to not provide a standard concrete cover all the other ‘utilities’ would be required to use them as well, in other words without looking inside or unless it’s engraved as OR , it could be someone else’s cover.
Assuming it is OR , if it’s in a public area then to move it would be at your expense and as stated, depending on what’s required could be very expensive….if it’s on your property or land , and is used solely to serve your address , it won’t be moved unless you pay , if you insist it’s removed, saying permission was never provided to OR , obviously there wouldn’t be any further obligation for OR to service the property , so it possibly gets removed ( not relocated) but you would never be able to have an OR based service at the property.
Even if it’s on your property , and you dont intend to use an OR based provided , so are relaxed about that issue , unless you built the property, ( in which case how did it get installed if you didn’t want it there ) , then the builder of the property or a previous occupant probably agreed to it being where it is , so ( again ) asking for it to be removed would be chargeable …finally, as already stated, BT and OR are functionally separate, it’s nothing to do with ‘BT’ .
