My ex-husband has taken over the broadband line since our divorce, while the house is up for sale. I can’t afford to move out. There is no phone signal in the house and he is refusing to give myself and my daughter the password. He says I must pay him £50 per month. I contacted BT and they say my only option is to apply for a second line and this can take up to 3 months. I’m isolated. This doesn’t seem right! Any advice?
This guy is financially abusing you and your daughter.
This abusive relationship needs to involve the police
This has nothing to do with BT.
You would be best to contact a solicitor however if you are now divorced and he is paying for the broadband then he is under no obligation to let you use it for free.
I have a court order saying equal access to utilities. Solicitor paid for and correspondencec sent that there should be a normal broadband package and I will pay half. He refuses. He took my name off the bill, though I am co-owner of the house and this wasn’t agreed with BT. BT won’t give me access to the one broadband line going into the house now! I can’t even make a call and have no internet! My daughter is studying for alevels and can’t contact any of her friends when at home!
Contact your solicitor.

@Kodikid With respect, he’s doing no such thing and it’s a ridiculous and wild accusation. I was in a similar situation where I had an ex-Wife who actually wanted me to carry on paying the bills after I moved out. I cancelled everything in my name as one would expect when no longer living there, gas, electric, phone, water, everything. Being taken for a total mug was not in my playbook.
Clearly, nothing to do with BT, it’s a civil matter between the affected parties.
Hi @Jonese1
I'm so sorry to hear about your situation, and I understand this will be a difficult time for you.
I think the best next step is to reach out to your solicitor, as they'll be able to offer you the best support and advice.
Take care,
Linzi
I think the Moderator has said all that needs to be said any further in the matter. None of what the OP has posted, is anyone else’s business but their own. Anything that follows is just pointless commentary to be fair.
