Re: BT Smart Controls service is changing

I have raised a number of complaints about this issue and each time they have been closed with no resolution. I have emailed consumer relations who have responded, to only state what has already been announced, (The Smart Control app is ending on the 15/09/25), and that  I should write to BT Legal for assistance?

My last complaint was followed up with a phone call from BT who listened to my concerns and investigated further, and who were unable to offer any resolution or compensation. The matter is now unresolved, and I am expecting a letter from  BT stating that the matter is at deadlock, and the only course of action is for me to contact the Ombudsman using the Alternative Dispute resolution scheme.

I have 3 Smart Control BT cameras which become useless on the 15th September. BT have made a decision to remove a service, and in doing so have left me to find a remedy which will incur me cost and time. At this stage BT are not prepared to offer any mitigation, and I was told that the support of the app is sub contracted to a third party, who are requesting BT to pay them more money. BT have made a business decision  to cease this part of their business to control costs, and focus on their core services. We the customer, are just collateral damage along the way, and in our case have been left hung out to dry.

Is it worth coordinated ombudsman action?

Re: BT Smart Controls service is changing

What a waste of money and short lifespan.  I wished I  hadn’t bought the cameras  early on as disappointing quality, motion detection useless, app hopeless and never improved. Now soon to be completely useless after only a few years.  I feel they were mis-sold.

And the short notice is unacceptable, very unprofessional.

Re: BT Smart Controls service is changing

This was linked in regards to tv boxes but is probably relevant here

https://img01.products.bt.co.uk/content/dam/bt/storefront/pdfs/terms/bt-product-support-may-2024-iss...

States minimum support period of 6 years starting Feb 2019 so passed that it seems

Re: BT Smart Controls service is changing

This is not an example of support being removed.

It is the product being degraded by the removal, with zero remedy being offered in its place, of core functionality.

Support would mean things like having new firmware updates, vulnerabilities patched, customer service agents trained to answer queries regarding issues with the product etc

BT Smart Control Service is changing.

This title is a misnomer. it is not just changing, in the case of the Cameras which are supported by the app, the service is ending, ceasing, or terminating, however you want to put it. Customers will loose a service which is currently available, and there is no redress.

Re: BT Smart Controls service is changing

Hi

I have the BT baby monitor and I've seen the email that the app will be deleted and I can no longer use this. I'm unhappy about this as I use the app every day and it's the main reason that I bought this camera. It was a big selling point for me and it was an investment.

For the app to be removed negates the reason for me buying this and I now need to buy a new camera that has an app.

This baby monitor was mis sold to me as I wanted a baby monitor with the app.

I look forward to hearing from you with a resolution to this issue.

Thanks
Sadiyah

Re: BT Smart Controls service is changing

Like others on here I am so angry about this. I will be leaving bt broadband and switching my wife’s and my EE mobile packages over as soon as I can. I suggest you all do the same.

Re: BT Smart Controls service is changing

Does anyone have a way to contact BT directly on this?

I am unhappy at the options for remediation given.

Note - I am not an ongoing subscriber of BT's - so cannot use any existing account. I have bought this product which had an important feature which is to be removed post-purchase.
