@SouthWest1

If you read through it, it isn't.

Re: DNS issues with Smart Hub 2

@Steve_M

Hi Steve, sorry to butt in but I am having the same issue as other users on this.

I have had BT look at it and they think it is a congested home network, which I disagree with.

Like others, if I change the DNS servers on my laptop everything works ok (I can ping ip addresses, but not the named address). Is there a fix for this?

If I reboot the hub then everything works again for up to one or two days.

I would like to change the hub's dns servers but sadly, this is not an option.

Very frustrating

Re: DNS issues with Smart Hub 2

I have the same problem. Yesterday I was told the same about the network. Seems unlikely. He said I should get a better switch.

I had a replacement hub a month ago. I can always access the hub manager. On one call they said it might be cabling.

Re: DNS issues with Smart Hub 2

I have found a way of getting round this problem in the interim.

Change your devices to a static ip address. This allows you to change the DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

I have changed all of my devices to this including my TV, mobile phone and others. *If you have auto setup then you can't modify the DNS server settings.

My Amazon firestick won't let me add the Google DNS servers , but it doesn't matter anyway as Amazon use their own

DNS servers 213. something.

I tried using 8.8.8.8 and I lost connectivity and had to factory reset the Firestick which brought it back up.

Hopefully this will be of help to those who are getting nowhere with the helpdesk, they even suggested changing my BT hub for a third party router !

Re: DNS issues with Smart Hub 2

@Phil923  After using absolutely appalling ISP provided routers, changing to a 3rd party router was the best thing I did. I’ll point out though, I don’t have a landline, not used one in a domestic environment for years.

Re: DNS issues with Smart Hub 2

@Kimberlin

I have a digital voice adapter which also negates the need of the hub. I think I'll persevere for now as if it fails again I probably won't notice. If not I'll check out some other routers

Re: DNS issues with Smart Hub 2

The Digital Voice adapter most certainly doesn't negate the use of the hub. It connects to it.

Re: DNS issues with Smart Hub 2

@licquorice I have to agree with you. I don't know what possessed me to write that.

However my DNS problems seem to be resolved. If I want to use a 3rd party router then I will have to keep the SH2 in place and just dumb it down a bit.

Re: DNS issues with Smart Hub 2

It possible that it is a network issue. I had my laptop setup with Ethernet and wifi. Now just on Ethernet.

We shall see.
