FTTP

My broadband package will finish next year. I am being offered renewal at the same price to save five pounds.

I want to hold on for FTTP which is supposed to happen by 2025 so that I can have a better choice of providers as no one is able to give my Full fibre because Openreach have not installed the cableing.

What is going on. I live in central London and can't get full fibre. When will it happen??

Re: FTTP

This is a customer-to-customer help forum for the domestic ISP BT.  The only BT employees are the moderators.

BT and Openreach are separate companies, (albeit both part of BT Group).  There is no connection between this forum and Openreach, so no one on here will be able to answer that question.  Try here:

Re: FTTP

I don't know if you still can, but you used to be able to register an interest with Openreach and they would send you an email when there was news.

Re: FTTP

When you say "FTTP which is supposed to happen by 2025", do you mean it was supposed to have happened by 2025, or that it's supposed to happen by 2027?

My experience was a bit odd as there was an awful lot of activity around the telegraph poles in our estate about 18-24 months ago, which got me excited, but it didn't appear to be Openreach doing the work. Then, a few months later, we started getting callers and leaflets from two fibre broadband companies saying it was now available in our street, and I know that one of our neighbours signed up with one of them. When I did a bit of research, though, it transpired that neither use Openreach's network but rather their own independent networks (albeit using some of the infrastructure also used by Openreach, such as some of the ducting and telegraph poles etc.).

Roll the clock forward to a couple of months ago and suddenly, out of the blue, I get an email from Openreach advising me that full fibre was now available to me with a link to select an ISP that uses the Openreach network. Now, I had signed up to be notified when it was available, but as far as I know, apart from connecting a neighbour, there had been no further activity on the telegraph poles since the other two companies had installed their fibre cables to them.

So whether the underground cabling to the poles was done a a joint exercise a couple of years ago with those other two companies getting first dibs to recruit customers, I know not. The engineer that came out to connect the cable from the telegraph pole to my property wouldn't have known as he was simply doing installations (in quite a wide area as it turned out when I asked him).

So, you never know - if you sign up to get notified by Openreach when it's available, you might just get a pleasant surprise one day like I did!  And, BTW, I was able to select a full fibre package from BT at the same price I was paying for my part fibre (FTTC) package, so I received a nearly 15 fold speed increase at no extra cost!
