Full Fiber Connection Inconsistent

Last week I noticed that my download has been very inconsistent. I am on the 900Mbit package and that started from November last year. I was getting a Full 900+ with no slowdown on downloading.

I have done a series of test and it can change from hour to hour for example M247 on speedtest (dot) net has been as low as 400 then back up to 500 600 700 ect

My Xbox and PlayStation both records 900+

100Mbit loss and the test above was completed 10 mins ago. This can jump up and down quite alot.

Tonight I was streaming over on Twitch, Internet and Digital Voice went offline and come back online after 10-20 seconds. I was checking the logs and it shows DoS(Spoofing) and DoS(Port Scanning) from the 28th March

Re: Full Fiber Connection Inconsistent

Your speeds will always be fluctuating, they'll never be a set speed.

You have to remember that you share your fibre connection with others, you're not on your own dedicated line as you're a residential consumer.

If you went through BT as a business then you would get a different reply.

BT have given you a set speed you can obtain up to and set a minimum lower speed for their Stay Fast Guarantee, so as long as you're hitting speeds which are inbetween of them, then they'll say your line is fine.

https://www.bt.com/help/broadband/full-fibre/what-is-bt-s-stay-fast-guarantee-for-full-fibre

Obviously, if it keeps dropping below the Stay Fast level then contact BT to report it.

This been explained in detail in previous posts below, of which you should read:

I do not subscribe, so please do not always expect a reply.

Re: Full Fiber Connection Inconsistent

Ahhhh, This was never explained when signing up it was a shared backbone connection but now I do understand abit more.

I just find it strange on how in like my testing in a hour all clients were like.

Battle Net Client downloads at 120MBs
Rockstar Client 120MBs
Steam Client 80MBs
Ubisoft Connect 65MBs

But before they were all capping around to 110-120MBs
This has just been my testing over the past few hours installing games fresh to an M.2 SSD.

Re: Full Fiber Connection Inconsistent

From those figures you have posted, 120MB/s equates to 960Mb/s which suggests you are getting the full bandwidth at your end from BT. Remember, the lower figures from some sites could be restrictions at their end especially if for example you are using a US based server when both the US and Europe are all up and playing,  of if there has been a recent update/software release that is very popular. Try at 06:00 and see if the figures are any different.

Re: Full Fiber Connection Inconsistent

Today is been doing quite a few test while at work. Some come in at 950Mbs 850Mbs 750Mbs and 3 have come in below.

Can these test be done on 4/5G or should they be done on the wifi?

Re: Full Fiber Connection Inconsistent

Tests should always be over a wired connection directly into the hub. There are too many variables with wirehas. Same for power adapters etc.
