Re: Openreach fibre move

This is madness!
cable at roof height from attic of single story cottage running down the wall (without any protection) to new grey box at ground level to be spiced to new cable attached to BT pole 30m up the street at roof height (original cable entry point) . So unsightly black cable tacked to beige render running down from source ar roof height to run back up to second source at roof height? I questioned the cable needlessly running down then up my wall.  Why not splice at same level at point of entry to house? According to engineer splicing equipment could not be used up a ladder! Yes the YouTube instruction video I’d been directed to says ladder would be screwed to wall during installation. OK for safety of engineer climbing 6 feet I’d cope with a couple of wee holes in the wall. Preferable to unsightly two black cables tacked the length of the front of my cottage. Connection delayed by a day. Reason? Cherry picker not booked til following day. Here’s a suggestion why not use cherry picker to lift cable splicer and grey box to the correct place under roof guttering. Random cables on homes not only are vulnerable to damage at ground  level but ruin the clean aesthetics of private homes needlessly.

It’s still happening in 2025! I’m about to contact open reach to remind them of their duty of care to the customer. I’ve had no reasonable explanation why the cable needs to run down to ground only to be spliced to overhead cable also run down wall to ground for an attic cable entry? A cherry picker returning to property to attach new fibre cable to Open Reach bracket that held original copper wire. Why can’t engineer in same cherry picker splice wires and attach grey box when they are up there anyway. No one is up a ladder! What am I’m missing 🥴

Why not! Please explain.
If it’s health and safety gone totally bonkers then why can’t the cherry to take the wire from pole picker be used?

Where can I purchase an internal CSP like shown in the photos - looking to have FTTP installed soon overhead and want it to goto the 2nd floor in my home office. Anchor point of old copper cable is on top apex of the house so as OP don’t see the need for the cable to go to ground then back up again.

Re: Openreach fibre move

Openreach won’t use any equipment you supply , even if you managed to source something from the same manufacturer that Openreach use .

Internal CSP are rare for a few reasons , no external point where the internal and external fibres can be ‘split’ for testing purposes, with an overhead feed , an internal CSP suggests that the cable would be entering the property at height , this is generally avoided for safety reasons etc , and similarly an external CSP mounted high up on the property is avoided , as it also means the splicer has to be used at height , probably on a ladder , difficult to maintain three points of contact ( both feet and one hand )on the ladder while using a splicer , plus drop it from height that’s a £3000 machine destroyed.

Ask nicely or complain vociferously you may get an internal CSP , but the request may also be refused,  if the standard overhead method of provision, external cable from height to a low level (cable on wall ) , CSP fitted , and then an ‘internal’ cable into the building the ingress point where you would like it  (  if that’s at height , another cable on wall to that position ) ….if you know all this in advance and it’s unacceptable, don’t order , that way you don’t waste your own time as well as Openreach’s .
