Cancel Contract

My mother has been moved out of her house into a home and all her money is taken for care. She has dementia and we do not have Power of attorney.

How do we cancel the contract as it’s so difficult to speak or communicate with BT

The account will go into debt if this isn’t sorted with no ability to clear the debt

thanks

Re: Cancel Contract

With difficulty without Power of Attorney.

You should get Power of Attorney as you will no doubt need it for other things and it will make things so much easier for you.

Re: Cancel Contract

Unfortunately, once a person loses mental capacity you have to apply through the Court Of Protection to manage their affairs as a Deputy. This is a very time consuming process, and can be expensive if you need legal help.

This  situation has arisen before on this forum, and a forum moderator has offered to help with the BT account. https://community.bt.com/t5/Bills-Packages/Moving-to-dementia-home/m-p/2269906#M150536

I have asked a moderator to post on this thread.

Re: Cancel Contract

Hi, @9884booth to cancel a BT account we need to validate the person we are speaking with to ensure that we're being compliant with the general data protection rules.

I'll send you a private message no so you can send over your details and we'll be happy to look into the options available and discuss these with you.

Thanks

Neil
